Nuneaton Match Summaries 11/03

Jordan StepienThis week’s exciting events mean that both the Harrogate and AFC Telford matches will be summed up in one post. In what may be a critical pair of matches, Nuneaton triumphed on Saturday, with an excellent 2-1 victory away at third placed Harrogate Town.

This result was followed up with a 0-0 draw away at Bucks Head, as the Boro took a fine point from AFC Telford- currently 2nd in the table. On a cold and windy night, the Nuneaton players battled well for long periods of the game and, with the help of one or two fine Darren Acton saves, secured their fourth point from the last two games.

With other results going Boro’s way over the weekend, the last two games have seen Nuneaton rise to fifth place in the table, and in a prime position to strike in the play-offs. While Hyde United have struggled, losing against both Burscough and Workington in the last four days, you would be excused for feeling that it is now a choice of four from five for the promotion positions.

With results such as these at Harrogate and Telford, Kevin Wilkin must feel quietly confident that if his side were to reach the end of season lottery of the play-offs, they would have just enough to edge past their rivals in the crucial games. In what was a massive week for Nuneaton, they will need to keep their momentum going with a win in the home game against Barrow this weekend.
